The Old Pilchard Press, situated within the colourful and lively fishing village of Newlyn, offers unique and contemporary accommodation whilst retaining much cottage character and charm.

Harbour, Sea and coastal views are enjoyed from most of the rooms and a charming array of seating areas within the Mediterranean style garden make the most of the sun, all enjoying harbour, sea and coastal views – particularly the wooden decked area leading from the dining area, perfect for alfresco breakfast enjoying the morning sun while watching the fishing boats coming and going from the busy harbour.

 Spacious accommodation is beautifully furnished and decorated with an eclectic mix of both antique and modern furniture along with an array of bright and colourful pictures, rugs and furnishings giving this cottage a wonderfully bright and arty atmosphere while the whitewashed walls and wooden floors create a ‘seaside’ feel.

The unique position of The Old Pilchard Press gives you some of the best views towards the busy Harbour of Newlyn, St Michaels Mount, The Lizard Point and beyond.  The cottage is situated behind ‘Sandy Cove’   - sadly not sandy anymore but  a small pebbled/rocky beach that is popular with divers and fishermen. The cycle path leading to either Mousehole or Marazion sits just yards away.  To left of the cottage, sitting on the harbours edge  is ‘Harvey’s’, one of the largest shellfish suppliers, ideal for the seafood lovers – why not take a visit to the cleaning and holding tanks and buy your fresh, local ‘just caught’ lobster or crab!

Newlyn is a lively & traditional fishing port of great character and charm, situated just one mile from both Penzance & Mousehole.

The colourful & bustling harbour, home to the well known ‘Penlee Lifeboat’,  boasts one of the largest shipping fleets in England and offers several fish markets selling fresh locally caught fish & seafood daily.
Steeped in history and world known for its huge artist community producing some of the finest Artists’ both past & present, Newlyn has numerous art galleries and is home to the famous ‘Newlyn School of Art’ and ‘Newlyn Art Gallery’.

The village offers a good range of amenities, with numerous fresh fish markets, a butcher, two bakers, chemist, newsagent, green grocers, florist and a co-op offering a good choice of foods. There is also a good selection of restaurants’ and pubs.

** Please note: The steps leading to the parking area and beach access are steep and do not have handrails therefore, the cottage is not suitable for young and unsupervised children, the elderly or those with mobility problems.

The cottage has two entrances, one from the parking area & beach access below the house, or through a small alley way on Lower Green Street which brings you in through the hallway . Although the first option is the easier of the two for access, there are steep narrow steps to climb and the steps do not have a hand rail.

From the front door into a slated floor hall. Closet for housing iron / ironing board, Vacuum cleaner and electricity fuse box etc, coat hooks, glass door leading to rear courtyard.

Beautifully light and spacious room.  Focal point being the wonderful traditional granite inglenook fireplace with working open fire.  Double aspect windows draw your eyes to the superb uninterrupted sea and coastal views, whilst the window seats with a scattering of bright and colourful cushions make this an ideal spot to relax and watch the ever changing tides.

Deep inbuilt wooden shelves hold the Digital T.V, DVD and CD / Stereo.  A good selection of books and games for your enjoyment during your stay along with a small collection of CDs and DVDs

Original Parquet flooring and painted wooden beams throughout makes for a wonderful warm and homely feel. The modern and antique furniture, large corner sofa, two easy chairs, wooden coffee table, an array of lamps and a cosy colourful rug together with an eclectic mix of sculptures, pictures and pottery give this room a real quirky and tasteful  setting to relax and socialise.

Large refectory style wooden table and eight chairs overlooking the large window drawing your eye to the superb sea and coastal views.   small wooden desk in the corner with an IPOD docking station and radio. The cottage has excellent mobile phone reception; therefore, it is ideal for internet access if you have an internet ‘dongle’ or roaming facility for those wishing to bring their laptops.

Kitchen:

From the dining area, two steps lead to a good sized, kitchen with slate floored.
Fully equipped to include cooker, microwave, full sized fridge / freezer, dishwasher, washing machine and tumble dryer.  A good range of cooking knives, utensils and pots / pans etc make this a good ‘foodies’ kitchen.  Window overlooking rear courtyard.  Stable door to rear courtyard:  ideal for enjoying some afternoon sun, drying clothes and storing surfboards, wetsuits and bicycles.

All bedrooms are light, bright and spacious and tastefully furnished. The white washed walls and reclaimed wooden floorboards compliment the contemporary use of modern and antique furniture & artwork. Quality pure cotton bed linen and warm homely furnishings ensure a good night’s rest.

Two steps up leading to Unique master bedroom with large queen sized bed – (please note, this bed can also be separated to create two single beds – please specify when booking) Free standing small antique roll top bath and original Victorian basin with large mirror over. Wonderful light and spacious bedroom. Large double wardrobe with built in shelves, two bedside tables and lamps, antique wooden trunk. View into the courtyard.

Bedroom two:

Quirky and spacious room, with wonderful harbour, sea and coastal views from the large window. Double bed with antique carved oak headboard, bedside table and lamp, walk in closet with shelving, painted wooden washstand / dressing table, wicker chair.

Bedroom three:

Quaint and bright room with glorious harbour sea and coastal views from double aspect windows with window seat. Double bed, bedside lamp, painted wooden chest of drawers with mirror, large covered recessed hanging space with shelves

Bedroom four:

Quirky good sized single room again enjoying the superb harbour, sea and coastal views. Single bed, bedside lamp, window seat, wooden chest of drawers and built in wardrobe with full length mirror.

Bathroom:

Spacious family bathroom with full sized bath and electric shower over, Victorian basin and WC.  Painted wooden floor.

The garden is split level and separated in to lovely secluded seating areas maximising the good level of sunshine the garden attracts.  Through the French windows from the living area to the Large wooden deck with table and chairs and BBQ,  attracting the morning sun, with stone steps leading down to further seating in the pebbled ‘seaside’ garden area– all enjoying the wonderful views.  Mature shrubs, palms and scented flowers afford a good degree of privacy.  Steep granite steps ** lead down to parking for several cars and access to the pebbled beach.

Rental is inclusive of all utilities, quality pure cotton bed linen, bedding and towels – please note,  beach towels are not provided so we kindly request that you bring your own.
